A Taste of Seasoned Summer

A taste of seasoned summer:
salty sweat and strawberry blood,
the smell of warm wooden floorboards
as you walk up the stairs to your bedroom,
the feeling of the sun’s liquid caress
and light glinting in the eyes.

Close your eyelids and the memories
come rushing back,
a world in a moment,
a palpable record of every summer past,
a fragrance, a taste, a feeling
all melding together
to form a transcendental experience,
an inhale, an exhale,
a place and time where you belong.

A taste of the seasonings of summer —
erased in an instant
by the delicate zephyr of May.
