Artist’s Hearts

We had artist’s hearts,
you and I,
creating when creation was carefree,
we laughed into the summer wind and
sat out by the lake,
we felt things deep in our molecules,
we cried when it was necessary.

Affection was natural and easy,
introvert and extrovert holding hands,
one did all the talking,
one had such exuberance,
one was born for this life.

Artist’s hearts,
ever stronger than our childhood bond,
artist’s hearts shattered and reborn,
we don’t love each other like that anymore,
but, for better or worse,
we never could stop creating,
could we?
