There’s a thread of gold
under the evergreen tree,
a renegrade maple shoot
climbing upward
in a cast shadow.
Fascinated, she plucks
the leaves and gives away
her golden gifts.
Mother felt it best
to keep her poetic thoughts,
children tied to Earth.
