I honestly don’t know how I feel about Medium Membership yet. On one hand, I am happy to spend $5.00 per month to help a platform that I enjoy stay up and running. On the other hand, I feel like Medium Membership was sold to me as something it is not. The new homepage, the stories that are behind the paywall, and the green halo are not worth $5.oo per month to me. It was presented as something that would benefit me and it doesn’t, as far as I can tell.
I also wanted to say that I understand how you feel. To be asked to pay to be a reader on a platform where you write (and/or edit) for free is kind of off-putting. They really could have presented that in a better way.
