Tidal Wave
a poem
Sometimes it all hits you
Like a tidal wave -
Everything you’re thinking and living,
Every emotion and stimulus…
You’re just walking through the grocery store
When you don’t really need anything,
But you want to get out,
And there it is, white-capped,
Carrying seaweed and driftwood,
A wall of water set to
Break all over you;
This and that and life and
Work and responsibilities and all
The feelings of everyone around
(as if you were ever meant to
be in control of that).
You think of Sisyphus, though that’s
Not terribly accurate -
You know there’s spots of relief, sometimes.
